KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The No. 12 LC State Volleyball team battled all the way back on Saturday to secure a reverse sweep of Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls. The Warriors used set scores of 15-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-10 to earn the first Cascade Conference victory of the season behind 20 kills from
Taylor Boyce.
Karissa Lindner made her mark in Warrior history with the 300
th block to her career with six on the night.
LC State put up 13 total blocks including nine in the final three sets, led by six each from Lindner,
Jordynn Albright and
Addison Wilson.
Teagan Scott played a huge role on both sides of the ball with a 28-assists, 15-dig double-double.
The victory improves the LC State record at 7-1 on the season and 1-1 in Cascade Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Oregon Tech controlled the first set with five aces in the frame. The Lady Owls built a lead and held the Warriors to a .054 attack percentage to take the set 25-15.
Kills by Boyce and Lindner had LC State out to a 2-0 lead to start the second frame, but OIT answered with a pair of runs to pull ahead 9-3. Kills by
Mikale Roy and Boyce, an ace by
Kadence Moore and block by Wilson cut the difference to one before a swing by Albright tied things up 17-17. A kill by
Hadyn Smith helped the Warriors to a 22-21 edge, but the Owls took the set 25-23.
Oregon Tech seemed to maintain its momentum early in the third frame with a quick 3-1 lead, but LC State turned things around from there. The Warriors went on an 8-0 run with contributions from Wilson, Albright,
Makenzie Stout and Roy to surge in front 11-5. Two more swings by Roy kept the lead at 16-11, and three kills by Boyce fueled a four-point run to make it 20-13. Lindner teamed up with Smith and Albright on two blocks for set point, 24-20, and Boyce ended the frame with a kill at 25-21.
Three OIT errors and a block by Wilson and Boyce gave the Warriors a 4-1 advantage in the fourth set, and Wilson and Boyce combined for three straight kills to make it 7-5. The teams battled back and forth to an 11-11 tie before a kill by Roy launched a seven-point rally with blocks by Smith, Lindner and Boyce, as well as three kills by Boyce, to push the margin to 18-11. Lindner, Smith and Wilson combined for four straight kills at 23-12 before a block by Lindner and Smith and kill by Wilson finished off the set 25-18.
OIT struck first in the deciding fifth set, but a run of four with kills from Boyce, Wilson and Smith quickly put LC State in front. Swings by Smith and Boyce were followed by back-to-back blocks by Wilson and Albright, and swings by Roy and Albright gave the Warriors a strong 11-6 lead. Three OIT errors ended the night with a 15-10 Warrior win in the set.
STAT RECAP
Lindner, Wilson and Albright each had six blocks in the contest. The mark is a career-best for Albright and Lindner now ranks eighth all time with 301 in her career. Smith added five and Boyce assisted on two.
Boyce led the match with 20 kills and Roy added 13. Wilson had seven, Smith tallied six and Lindner had five.
Scott had a huge double-double with 28 assists and 15 digs.
Ella Stosich tied for the team lead with 15 digs and Stout collected 12 to go with her team-best three service aces.
The Warriors outblocked OIT 13-9 and held the Owls to a .119 attack percentage.
