Box Score HAVRE, Mont. – The defense was turned up on high for the LCSC men's basketball team Saturday night.
The Warriors held the Skylights to 29.1 shooting from the field and defeated MSUN 67-49 to take sole place of third in the Frontier Conference standings.
"The score is not an indicator of how hard fought a win that was," Head Coach
Brandon Rinta said. "I thought that was our best defensive effort of the season. To hold a team to 29 percent on the road is not easy to do."
The 49 points scored by the Skylights was also a season low for MSUN and the lowest point total allowed by the Warriors in a game this season.
With the win, the Warriors improved to 15-6 overall and 5-4 in FC play. The Skylights fall to 15-5 on the season and 4-4 in conference.
Ty Higbie and
David Shedrick scored 14 points apiece.
Isaiah Omamogho added 11 points and
Anthony Sullen rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10. The Warriors shot 46.3 percent from the field in the win.
"We shot it well tonight," Coach Rinta said. "Isaiah, Ty and David all got it going. David was big tonight. He battled hard guarding their centers and made some big plays offensively.
Both teams battled for control in the first, with no lead from either team extending as large as five points until Shedrick's 3-pointer gave LC a 7-point lead with 9"43 in the half. Higbie's trey with 7:05 gave the Warriors a 13-point advantage, the largest in the half. MSUN rallied but the Warriors led at the break 28-19.
Higbie started off the second hitting two 3-pointers, giving LC a 15-point lead. MSUN started their slim comeback attempt with an 8-0 run to cut their deficit to six. That was the closest the Skylights would get the rest of the game. A
Doug McDaniel trey increased the LC to its largest of the game at 22 with less than a minute left.
The Warriors outscored MSUN's bench 24-16 and scored more points in the paint, 28-12.
LC is back on the court Thursday as they host Rocky Mountain College at 7:30 p.m. in the Activity Center.
