LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State's volleyball team couldn't maintain the momentum of a strong start and fell in five to Carroll College in Frontier Conference action Friday night at the Activity Center.
After winning 26-24 and 25-22 to open the match, the Warriors lost 18-25, 23-25 and 13-15 to drop to 8-11 overall and 2-6 in league play. Carroll, which arrived at the Activity Center after a five-set victory at #14 Montana Tech Thursday night, improved to 12-10 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
"The first two sets," coach
LaToya Harris-Alexander said, "they had a lot of fight. They were just playing together. We talked about the seventh man – like basketball has the sixth man. To us, that's playing as a unit. The energy and that fight. They had that at the beginning."
Every set was close throughout as the teams battled for the momentum – a scenario Harris-Alexander expected.
"You have to know that Carroll and whoever we are playing," she said, "is going to step up to the challenge. We have to respond better."
Neither team hit well with Carroll and .176 and the Warriors at .198.
Rachel Gregg and
Maya Williamson continued to lead the Warriors with Gregg collecting 15 kills and Williamson 14.
Justine Cota Culp had 11.
Luana Thompson had 35 digs with Gregg contributing 20.
Lauren West had 38 assists.
