LEWISTON, Idaho – The first Lewis-Clark State basketball doubleheader of the season is Friday when the men open the evening against Maine-Fort Kent at 5:30 p.m. with the women following against The Master's at 7:30 at the LC Activity Center.
Both Warrior teams are undefeated with the women off to a 2-0 start after a road swing to California and the men 3-0 after a three-game homestand.
Women's coach
Brian Orr said going against The Master's, which is opening its season Friday, might be a bit like looking in the mirror.
"They are a little like us in that they are young and will be counting on several freshmen to play key roles," he said. "But make no mistake, their roster is filled with talented players who are well-coached and they play very hard. We are expecting a very competitive game."
While it is The Master's season-opener, the Mustangs aren't without some experience this season with four exhibition games under their belts.
For the Warriors, their home-opener is a welcome change from the road.
"I am certain all of our players are excited to be playing in front of the home crowd for the first time," Orr said. "We will want to keep that energy focused on the task at hand."
For the Warrior men, they are taking on a team that has been on a West Coast road swing since Oct. 26. The Bengals come into the Activity Center, for their final game of the journey, with a 2-3 record that includes victories over Southern Oregon and Multnomah.
The Bengals are averaging 79 points per game and are coming off a 101-point outing at Multnomah. The Warriors, however, counter with 109.3 points per game and five players with double-figure scoring averages – and one just shy.
Cordel Hankerson averages 20 points per game to pace LCSC with
Race Martin at 18.3,
Cory Dollarhide at 16,
Jeremy Franklin at 11.7 and
Daniel Davydov at 10.7.
Trea Thomas is right behind them at 9.7.
Franklin is the rebound leader with 10 per game and Martin is averaging 7.7.
