Box Score DILLON, Mont. – With the possibility of taking over the No. 2 seed in the Frontier Conference Tournament, the game between LCSC and Montana-Western was crucial.
A win for the Warriors would have given them a realistic chance of getting a bye in the first round. But the Bulldogs outscored the Warriors 47-27 in the second half and pulled away for a 95-66 win.
"When we have been good this season, it is because we have been good defensively," Head Coach
Brandon Rinta said. "Tonight we didn't have it on the defensive end."
With the loss, LCSC falls to 20-8 overall and 10-6 in FC play. The Bulldogs improved to 21-6 and 11-4 respectively, and 1.5 games up on LCSC.
Zavon Jackson led the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
David Shedrick was next with 15 points and
Doug McDaniel capped all double-figure scoring with 11.
The Bulldogs held the Warriors to 36.4 percent from the floor, including 20 percent from beyond the arc.
Montana-Western started off the game on a 6-0 run.
Isaiah Omamogho scored the first points for LCSC two minutes into the game. After that, the Bulldogs went on a 11-4 run and increased their lead to 11. Trailing 34-22, the Warriors attempted a comeback with a 12-3 run to cut their deficit to three.
Ty Higbie's free throw tied the score at 37-37 with just under four minutes to play. But that was the closest the Warriors would get the rest of the game. Montana-Western ended the half on an 11-2 run. The Warriors trailed by nine at the break.
Trea Thomas's field goal in the second half, brought the deficit back down to single digits, but the Bulldogs quickly erased that with a jumper and led the rest of the game by double-digits.
"We battled back a few times in the first half, but didn't have any answers in the second half for their penetration," coach Rinta said. "I give Western a lot of credit. They were really good tonight."
The Warriors look to get back on track in their last away game of the regular season Saturday at Rocky Mountain. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
