Box Score LEWISTON, Idaho – It's no easy task to defeat the same team three times in a season. But that's what the LCSC women's basketball team did against No. 11 Montana State Northern Thursday night as the Warriors defeated the Lights 58-51.
With the win, LCSC clinches a first-round bye and the No. 1 overall seed in the FC Tournament and at least a share of the conference regular season title. The Warriors will host the semi-final game on March 3.
"We will gloss over it and we are just looking at it one game at a time," assistant coach
Aubree Henrie said. "But home court is huge. Its big and we love playing here. We play really well at home, extra sleep in our own beds. It's a huge advantage as long as we take advantage of it."
The win also pushes LCSC's record to 25-1 on the year and 13-1 in conference. The Lights fall to 18-6 overall and 8-5 in the Frontier.
The Warriors trailed for most of the first half. Any time LCSC would attempt to cut the deficit any closer, the Lights would answer and keep their lead. Trailing 17-16,
Brittany Tackett added a bucket to take their first lead of the game with 5:40 left in the second quarter. The Lights would later retake the lead and head into halftime up by four after a late triple by MSUN.
In the third, the Warriors scored six straight points to start the quarter to grab the lead, as they switched their offense to more of half-court, slower paced and methodical approach.
"It does take a mature team to make adjustment in game and start playing half court," Henrie said. "Hat's off to our girls for playing well going slower. It was a tough, physical game. It was a grind the whole game and hard fought."
Tackett tallied four points and
Megan Risinger added a field goal in the run. The teams traded leads in the quarter but it was the Warriors who held the small 1-point lead at the end of thirty minutes, 43-41. LCSC led the rest of the way and by as much as seven points.
Three Warriors scored in double figures. Tackett led the way with 15 points. Risinger was next with 11 and
Caelyn Orlandi added 10.
LCSC will host Great Falls on Saturday in their next matchup starting at 5:30 p.m.
