LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State College's men's basketball team will be looking to build on the momentum from last Saturday's thrilling comeback victory over Carroll College when it takes on Montana State-Northern and Providence this weekend.
Tipoff Thursday against MSUN is 7:30 p.m. at the Activity Center with Saturday's game against Providence going at 4 p.m.
"I'm expecting two hard-fought games – just like our first four conference games have been," coach
Brandon Rinta said. "Both of these teams present different challenges."
The Warriors and MSUN are in a three-way tie with Carroll for the league lead with matching 3-1 records. Overall, MSUN is 13-3 and the Warriors are 14-2. Providence is 1-2 in the league and 7-6 overall.
"This will be the first time we match up with these teams so there will be a few unknowns going in," Rinta said. "The fact that Northern is tied for first lets you know how well they have been playing."
MSUN is the Frontier Conference leader in nine statistical categories – among which are its +26.44 margin of victory and its national leads in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio. The Warriors, though, counter with statistics that almost match their foe from Havre, Mont., with six that are second in the league. That includes their own winning margin of +23.3.
The Warriors are led by
Race Martin (13.8 ppg) with
Andre McCowan averaging 13.4,
Cory Dollarhide 11.5,
Darius Alexander 11.1 and
Jeremy Franklin 10.1. In his two games as a Warrior,
Dana Abe is at 12.0 points per game.
Trea Thomas is LC's assist leader with 75 with
Damek Mitchell (46),
Cordel Hankerson (44) and
Derrick White (40) contributing significantly – both with assists and their defensive abilities.
