Warriors battling to move up; Thursday is Jake Wiley Night

LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State's men's basketball team will be trying to build on the momentum of last Saturday's thrilling double-overtime victory at Montana-Western when the Warriors take on Providence Thursday night and Montana State-Northern Saturday.

The Warriors bring records of 18-6 overall and 7-5 in Frontier Conference play into the weekend. Providence is 10-12 and 4-8, while MSUN is 16-8, 6-6 in what has become a highly competitive battle for the league title. Carroll College and Montana-Western have 8-4 conference tallies as co-leaders.

Thursday night is Jake Wiley Night to honor the achievements of the former Warrior. Wiley, who joined the Warriors in 2014 as a transfer from the University of Montana, had a highly decorated career as a Warrior. Along his LC path are first-team NAIA All-American honors as well as Frontier Conference Player of the Year accolades. He spent his final collegiate season at Eastern Washington where he pursued his master's degree and earned Big Sky Conference Player of the Year honors.

He spent the summer of 2017 with the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA Summer league before signing with the Nets in August last year. He made his professional debut against the Denver Nuggets on Oct. 29, 2017.

As for today's Warriors, they're looking to return to their winning ways after going 1-4 during the arduous two-weekend stretch that took them to Montana State-Northern, Providence, Carroll College and Montana-Western.

They're also looking to avenge losses to both MSUN and Providence after beating both in the Activity Center in January.

Junior Race Martin continues to be the mainstay for the Warriors with 13.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game to go with a total 46 assists. Additionally, he his shooting 92.3 percent (36 of 39) from the free throw line and has knocked down 41 3-point goals off a .526 average from beyond the arc. Cory Dollarhide is LC's long-range leader after hitting eight (second-best in Warrior history) last Saturday.

Andre McCowan is LC's second leading scorer with 11.3 points per game and Dollarhide is third with 10.1.

With the likes of Martin and Dollarhide in the lineup, the Warriors have combined to have the sixth-best 3-point percentage in the NAIA.
