Box Score BELMONT, Calif. – The five-game winning streak was snapped for the Lewis-Clark State Women's Basketball team when the Warriors traveled to Belmont, Calif. to take on the NCAA DII Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts. Kiara Burlage led the team with 16 points and nine rebounds, but the Argos won the battle at the boards and the 3-point line.
Jamie Nielson put LC State on a board with a 3 one minute in, and Abbie Johnson followed with a jumper on an assist from Jansen Edmiston 40 seconds later to make it 5-0. Kiara Burlage found the basketball at 7:32 to give the Warriors a 7-4 advantage. The Argos tied things up 7-7, but a Burlage foul shot put LC back in front 8-7.
After NDNU went up 10-8, Hannah Burland and Burlage went back-to-back to regain the lead for LC State at 3:36. The two teams battled to maintain the lead throughout the remainder of the quarter and sat tied 16-16 at the end of the first 10 minutes.
After two scoreless minutes in the second frame, Burland scored the first points of the quarter with a 3-pointer at 7:54 to put the Warriors up 19-16. Peyton Souvenir drained a pair of free throws at 6:20 as the Warriors continued their five-point run. NDNU exploded for 12-straight to take a 28-21 lead at 2:18.
Johnson cut the Argo rally at 1:52 with a layup to bring LC State back within five, but NDNU bounced back for another nine points to close out the first half with a 37-23 lead.
Burlage answered an NDNU basket to open the second half. Souvenir brought the Warriors within 10 with a jumper at 5:37, but the Argos continued to hit 3s to keep a solid cushion. LC trailed 52-42 heading into the final quarter.
The Argonauts kept their momentum going into the fourth and came away with a 70-52 victory over LC State.
Burlage led the Warriors with 16 points and nine rebounds. Nielson had 14 points including four 3-pointers. Souvenir dished out a team-high five assists and had four steals.
The Argos won the rebound battle 41-26 and hit 11 3-pointers compared to LC's five.
The Warriors open their final season of Frontier Conference play on Dec. 6 at Carroll College in Helena, Mont.
