PHOENIX, Ariz. – Tuesday was a mixed bag for Lewis-Clark State's golfers at the Frontier Conference Championship Tournament.
Senior
Marissa Louder is just one stroke back of two-day leader Eryn Ellis but as teams, the Warriors slipped back in both the men's and women's tournaments. The women are in second but are 28 strokes back of leader Rocky Mountain (643-671), while the men dropped to 12 strokes off the pace to 621 and are behind the Battlin' Bears (609) and Montana Tech (611).
"The women had a better day but they still had a tough time finishing their rounds," coach
Kyla Lien said. "The men had a rough start but brought it back at the end. We just didn't have that one low round that we usually have."
The tournament, at Papago Golf Course, concludes with the final 18 holes Wednesday.
"Marissa played well and is in a really good spot for tomorrow," Lien said.
Louder and Ellis started the day just one stroke apart – 77-78, and were there at the end of the day after shooting 76s. Louder had birdies at two, seven and 12 but they were offset by bogeys at 10, 13 and 14, and double bogeys at four and 18. Ellis birdied the 11
th hole but had bogeys on five others for her four-over round.
Madilyn Brown is seventh with a 171 with
Megan Gibson eighth (173),
Lauren Hamm ninth (175) and
Natalie Gonzales tied for 11
th (179).
Justin Cox had the low round for the Warrior men with a two-over 74 but is tied for 20
th at 162. LC's first-day leader,
Carlos Davila, added a seven-over 79 to his opening-round 73 and is sixth at 153.
Zach Rawls and
Devon Caruso are tied for 11
th at 156, and
Caleb Kessler has a 161 and is 19
th.
"I'm really proud of how all of them carried themselves today," Lien said. "I am excited for both sides tomorrow."
