LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State women's basketball coach Brian Orr was sold on Madeline Weaver once he saw her scrimmaging with his current players.
 
"Madeline won us over on her campus visit," Orr said of Weaver, who is a 5-4 guard from Walla Walla, Wash., and a product of College Place High School. "I have to credit coach (Caelyn) Orlandi because she campaigned pretty hard to bring her in and let her play with our players."
 
Weaver was a record-setting guard for the Hawks at College Place. In her three years as a starter, she set school records for point per game (13.5, 834 total points) and assists (3.3, 206 total) and wound up second in steals (3.3, 203 total) and fourth in rebounds (3.7, 232 total).
 
"She has a great feel for when to drive it and when to pass it," Orr said. "She is an excellent perimeter shooter and when you combine that with her quickness and ball-handling skills, she is really hard to contain off the dribble.
 
"She is a feisty defender and brings a lot of competitive energy to the floor."
 
She was rewarded with first-team all-league and all-state honors as a senior and second-team recognition as a junior as she helped College Place make its first District appearance.
 
"Maddie is really fun to watch and, for our players, there was no doubt they had a lot of fun playing with her," Orr said. "She is a savvy player whose game already shows a lot of maturity. She is one of those players who has the ability to make everyone around her better. And we like the fact that she is another scoring point guard."
 
Weaver added nine Distinguished Scholastic Awards to her on-court accolades and also competed in track and field and volleyball. She was an all-league selection in volleyball and a state placer in track.
 
"She is an outstanding student and we are excited she decided to join our program," Orr said.
