WHITEFISH, Montana – The Lewis-Clark State Warriors dominated the Frontier Conference weekly awards, garnering four honors on Monday. Returning All-Americans Emily Adams and Cole Olsen continued strong junior campaigns at The Master's Invitational where they both placed in the top 10 to earn Frontier Conference Cross Country Runners of the Week. Madilyn Brown of Warrior golf topped the leaderboard at the Carroll College Fighting Saints Invitational, helping LC to a first-place team finish, to earn the first weekly honor of her career. Sophomore Tori Edwards was an offensive force for Warrior volleyball, collecting 30 kills and improving upon her conference leading attack percentage en route to being named the conference's Attacker of the Week.
CROSS COUNTRY
Adams and Olsen led the Warriors to top-five team finishes at The Master's Invitational on Saturday in Santa Clarita, Calif. Adams earned her second honor of the season after turning in the best finish on the day for LC State, placing fourth in the field of 300 runners with a time of 18:03.0. She helped lead the Warrior women to a fourth-place team finish, the best of any NAIA school in the 5K.
Olsen turned in a ninth-place overall finish in the field of 297 with a time of 25:16.1 in the 8K. He paced the Warrior men, and with the help of teammates Clayton VanDyke and Chase Barrow, LC State took fifth as a team.
"We are excited that they are both being recognized by the conference," coach Mike Collins said. "Both competed extremely well in a very high-pressure situation in California against some very, very tough competition and for them to both come out of that doing as well as they did not only speaks well of them but also for their leadership within our program. They are definitely an example to follow when it comes to having high success both athletically and academically."
GOLF
Brown had an impressive run at the Carroll College Fighting Saints Invitational last Monday and Tuesday. The senior helped lead the Warrior women to their first team victory of the season while also collecting the first individual title of her career. Brown led a trio of Warriors to a one-two-three finish at the tournament.
The Novato, Calif. native added a two-over 74 to her opening 75 for a five-over 149 to capture medalist honors. She had birdies on the par-4 fourth hole and the par-5 fifth as highlights to her second round as the Warriors combined for a 307 on Tuesday to win by 41 strokes (616-647) over No. 18 Rocky Mountain.
"Madi has had a good season so far," coach Kyla Lien said. "She is confident in her game and had a great tournament in Helena, Mont. She is going into our home event with an individual win and led her team to victory as well. I think she will keep the gas pedal down and continue to be successful the remainder of this fall season."
VOLLEYBALL
In eight sets played across two matches, sophomore Edwards dealt 30 kills to the opposing offenses with an attack percentage of .261. In the match against No. 23 Rocky Mountain College, Edwards tallied 14 kills in 37 attempts. "Tori has grown so much since transferring in the spring," coach Shaun Pohlman said. "She is bought in to what we are doing and the direction we want to go with our program. Her buy-in and impact on this team is definitely worthy of recognition, and I look forward to her development over the next three seasons."
