Three LC State Teams Ranked in Nation’s Top 25

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Three Warrior teams remained in the nation's top 25 in their respective polls, announced by the NAIA on Wednesday. Men's basketball checked in at No. 7, while women's basketball and men's tennis held tight to their spots at No. 21 and No. 25, respectively.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (25-3, 13-3)

The Warriors hit a bump in the road last weekend, dropping a game at Montana Tech before falling to then-No. 19 Carroll College at home. LC State needs one win to secure the regular-season conference championship with two games remaining.

LC State ranks second in NAIA DI in assist/turnover ratio (1.50) and 3-point field goal percentage (.433). They are in the top five in six other categories including scoring defense per game, 3-pointers made, scoring margin, 3-point field goal defense, 3-pointers made per game and field goal percentage defense.

Josiah Westbrook ranks second in NAIA DI in 3-point field goal percentage (.508). Damek Mitchell is fourth in total assists (187) and assists per game (6.93). He is also 10th in 3-point field goal percentage (.477).

The Warriors wrap up the regular season on the road this weekend with games at Rocky Mountain and Montana Western.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (18-8, 10-6)

The LC State women split last weekend's games, picking up an overtime victory at Montana Tech before falling to then-No. 16 Carroll on Senior Night. The Warriors head into the final weekend of the regular season third in the conference standings. There is one game separating LC from the top spot, which Carroll and No. 17 Montana Western are currently tied at.

The Warriors are fourth in NAIA DI in free throw percentage (.780). They are 13th in scoring defense per game (59.08) and 16th in assist/turnover ratio (1.09).

Kiara Burlage ranks 15th in NAIA DI in field goal percentage (.522) and 20th in free throw percentage (.832). Peyton Souvenir leads the conference in steals per game (2.19).

The final regular-season standings could come down to the final game of the season when the Warriors take on Montana Western. They will face the Bulldogs on Saturday after taking on No. 24 Rocky Mountain on Thursday.

MEN'S TENNIS (2-5)

The Warriors earned a 7-0 victory over NCAA DIII Whitman in their last match on Feb. 17. LC State swept through doubles play before winning every singles match in straight sets.

LC State will hit the road next week for a full slate of top NAIA action in Mississippi and Louisiana. The Warriors open the weekend on Mar. 5 against No. 4 William Carey (Miss.) and No. 12 Mobile (Ala.), before taking on No. 10 Tennessee Wesleyan on Mar. 6. They will travel to New Orleans to play No. 2 Xavier (La.) on Mar. 7.
