BROOKINGS, S.D. – The final day of the 2020 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships was filled with success for Lewis-Clark State. All three Warriors that raced earned All-American honors, with
Clayton VanDyke finishing as the National Runner-Up in the 800m,
Emily Adams racing to third in the women's 3,000m, and
Cole Olsen taking sixth in the men's 3,000m.
"I am excited about our final results at nationals," coach
Mike Collins said. "We can't really complain when we are coming home with four more All-Americans. I know we had hoped to have a shot at a couple of titles, but despite not accomplishing that I think we did LC State proud with our overall finishes. It's a great day to be a Warrior."
VanDyke added another All-American honor to his resume after finishing as the National Runner-Up in the 800m run. VanDyke maintained his spot in the lead pack before pushing ahead to cross the finish line in second place with a time of 1:54.45.
"Clayton ran well," Collins said, "but just couldn't respond in time to the momentum of the winner."
Adams made her move late in the race to pass the main pack and finish third in the women's 3,000m run. She earned All-American status with her time of 10:16.35.
"Emily came in ranked dead last out of all of the qualifiers, so it shows how much desire she has, and a huge heart," Collins explained.
Olsen earned the third All-American honor of the day for LC State. The junior finished sixth in the men'd 3,000m with a time of 8:31.83.
"Cole finished the day with a race plan to win," Collins said, "but kudos to the winner who broke away with 1,000m to go. Normally that is not successful. He has been feeling a little under the weather, so we really can't ask for much more."
