RESULTS
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – LC State Track and Field opened the 2026 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships with a pair of relays on Thursday. Both the women's 4x800m relay and men's 4x400m relay finished 15
th overall, and the men's group set a school record in the process.
Neither team made the final, but the LC State record book was edited with each event. The men bested the previous school record with a time of 3:15.78, and the women ran the program's fourth-best time in the event at 9:22.88.
"Although there is a bit of disappointment with not making the final, we really cannot be disappointed with our efforts and our results today," coach
Mike Collins said. "We talked last night about what it means to truly be 'dangerous' as an athlete. A truly dangerous athlete is one that goes into competition comfortable and confident, not worried or stressed about the results, knowing that they are going to give it everything they got and they have nothing to lose. They have no reason to hold back. When you don't hold back, you become dangerous. It takes maturity and experience to have that type of attitude. Today we were dangerous, just fell a little short of finals, but the outcomes were very good. Two edits to add to the record book, including a new No. 1 in the men's 4x400 and both teams finished well above their seeding going into the day."
The men's 4x400m relay was the 24
th-ranked team heading into the event and placed 15
th overall at the meet. The team of
Preston Cooper,
Harry Lazenby,
Jordan Castillo and
Trenton Johnson finished fourth in one of the fastest heats of the day to earn the top spot in the Warrior record book.
Nuala Rollins,
Damaris Kibiwot,
Grace Tiegs and
Camille Ussher represented LC State in the women's 4x800m relay and entered as the 20
th-ranked team in the NAIA. The Warrior women placed 15
th in the field and enter the record book with the fourth-best time in school history.
"This has kept everyone with good spirits and supportive of each other, so we are going into tomorrow very optimistic and even more determined to be the most dangerous Warriors in the field," Collins added. "I know I am excited and the team is too. Every day is a great day to be a Warrior. Today was and tomorrow will be too."
