LEWISTON, Idaho – The Frontier Conference Tournament will end in Lewiston. After upsets in the semifinal round, the No. 21 Lewis-Clark State Women's Basketball team is the highest seed remaining in the tournament. The third-seeded Warriors will take on the fifth-seeded Providence Argonauts on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Activity Center.
THE WARRIORS (21-9, 11-7) – No. 3 Seed
The Warrior women upset the defending national champion and second-seeded No. 17 Montana Western on Saturday to advance to the conference title game. LC State had no trouble with the Bulldogs and earned a 75-58 win in what Coach Brian Orr called the team's most complete game of the season.
Jamie Nielson led the team with 16 points in the game, including four 3-pointers. Kiara Burlage notched a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Jansen Edmiston totaled 14 points. Abbie Johnson added 11 points to the mix. Edmiston, Burlage, Peyton Souvenir and Hannah Burland each dished out four assists in the contest.
Burlage leads the Warriors in both scoring (15.8 points per game) and rebounding (7.6 rebounds per game). She is 10th in NAIA DI in field goal percentage (.542). Souvenir leads the Warriors with 3.9 assists per game and 2.1 steals per game.
The Warriors are third in NAIA DI in free throw percentage (.777) and 11th in assist/turnover ratio (1.12).
In three meetings this season, LC State picked up two wins against the Argos. In the first contest, Providence jumped out to a 20-0 lead before the Warriors stormed back to win 61-60. Burlage led LC with 17 points and eight rebounds. In the 74-64 victory, Edmiston and Burlage each dropped 18 points.
THE ARGONAUTS (20-12, 9-9) – No. 5 Seed
The Providence Argos pulled off upsets every step of the way, taking down fourth-seeded No. 24 Rocky Mountain before defeating top-seeded No. 18 Carroll College on Saturday in Helena, Mont. Providence battled back after trailing at the half to win 73-66.
Parker Esary led the team with 27 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 12-for-19 from the floor. Emilee Maldonado dropped 16 points and Bailey Cartwright had 15.
Esary leads UP in scoring with 15.2 points per game. Bailey Cartwright is the team's leading rebounder (9.6 rebounds per game), and leads the team in steals per game and blocks per game. Maldonado is averaging 4.8 assists per game.
Esary is second in NAIA DI in field goal percentage (.640). Maldonado is fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (.418) and eighth in assist/turnover ratio (2.48).
As a team, the Argos are third in 3-pointers made (290) and fifth in assist/turnover ratio (1.2).
