MEN'S RESULTS | WOMEN'S RESULTS

EAGLE POINT, Ore.
– Led by senior Lauren Hamm's 80, the Lewis-Clark State College Women's Golf team stands in second place after the opening round Monday of the Oregon Tech Spring Invitational at the Eagle Point Golf Club.

On the men's side, which consisted of 36 holes on Monday, the Warriors stand fourth, 11 shots behind the leader and host Oregon Tech.

The tournament is the first one in more than a year for the Warriors, although they did take part in an exhibition duel match last fall. Monday's conditions were cool and wet to begin with and windy later in the day.

"I know the players are disappointed in their scores," LC Coach Kyla Lien said. "The greens were wet and dewy at the start, but the wind came up and they dried up by the afternoon. It's like the men played two different courses."

Hamm is tied for third after her 8-over-par round. Only two women's players were able to break 80 on the day, including first-round leader Payton Canon, who carded a 73 for host Oregon Tech.

Oregon Tech leads the women's field with a 315, while LC State stands second at 337, 11 shots ahead of third-place Corban in the tournament that features all Cascade Collegiate Conference teams. It's the first of three conference tournaments this spring and running team scores will be combined from all three to determine the conference's regular-season champion.

On the men's side, Oregon Tech leads at 620, while LC State is within striking distance at 631.

Junior Carlos Davila leads the Warriors with rounds of 76 and 77 for a 153 total, which leaves him tied for third overall, six shots behind the leader.  Teammate Jacob Waller is tied for eighth at 155 after rounds of 78 and 77.

The final 18 holes of the event will be played Tuesday, also at Eagle Point.

Lien said it was just nice for the team to get out and play in a tournament.

"I was thinking about it and they (the players) have really been through a lot," she said. "Not being able to play competitively in a tournament for a year is tough. It felt good to get out and swing the club and compete. We know what we need to do tomorrow."
