Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Alisha Alexander | Sports Information Director

Muehlhausen Sets Block Record in Hard-Fought Victory Over TESC

The Warrior women got off to a slow start, but found their rhythm late in the contest to edge The Evergreen State College 57-55 on the road on Friday. Callie Stevens tallied her third straight game of at least 20 points with 24, and Sara Muehlhausen set a program record with eight blocks in the contest.

"We did just enough to win," Head Coach Brian Orr said. "Sometimes you can have a game where you can't buy a basket, but it wasn't just our shooting. Offensively, we weren't good at all. We just didn't execute. Our screening, cutting and passing was terrible. This was an ugly win. Hopefully this was a wakeup call. We know we can play better, but we also know that we have a few things that we need to improve on."

After an opening basket by Heidi Sellmann, the Warriors were silenced for seven minutes. The Geoducks surged for a 9-0 run during the span to take a 9-2 lead before Mata Green found the basket at 2:24. Free throws by Hannah Broyles and a layup by Rachel Schroeder brought LC within one, and a layup by Stevens had the deficit it 11-10 after the first 10 minutes.

The Geoducks maintained a slim lead over the Warriors until a 3 from Stevens put LC on top in final minutes of the second quarter. TESC tied things up with a minute to go, but a basket by Muehlhausen and foul shot by Schroeder sent LC into the locker room leading 26-23.

Evergreen regained it momentum early in the third quarter to take a 30-26 lead. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Stevens and Broyles put the Warriors back on top 34-30 at 6:40, but TESC evened the score. Another triple by Stevens put LC back in front and the Warriors led 47-40 at the end of the quarter .

After a rally by the Geoducks put TESC ahead by a small margin, Muehlhausen evened the score 48-48 with a free throw. A jumper by Broyles put the Warriors up for good before free throws by the junior capped the scoring at 57-55.

Stevens led all scorers with 24 points and Broyles added 14. Sellmann led the defense with eight rebounds while Muehlhausen and Broyles each grabbed seven. Muehlhaseun set a program record with her eight blocked shots, Stevens had four steals and Adyson Clabby dealt five assists.

The Warriors continue the road trip on Saturday at Northwest in Kirkland, Wash. The game is set to tip off at 3 p.m.
