LC State Women Complete Season Sweep of Corban

SALEM, Ore. – The No. 21 Warrior women rattled off their 11th straight win with a 75-56 victory over Corban University on Saturday night. Four LC Warriors scored in double-digits to help LC State hold on to a share of the top spot in the Cascade Conference heading into the final week of the regular season.

"We got off to a slow start and, although we had a couple of good runs, l thought we missed a bunch of shots that we normally make," Head Coach Brian Orr said. "We haven't used our full court press very often this season, but the second half we extended our defense and we were able to get a few steals. Our defense became our best offense and we ended up scoring 27 points off their turnovers. It was good to finish our last regular-season road trip with a couple wins, and now we have a chance to finish the deal on our home court with our final two regular-season games."

Hannah Broyles and Callie Stevens hit back-to-back 3-pointers to open the scoring for LC State in the first quarter. A layup by Stevens was followed by another 3 from Broyles to kick the advantage out to 11-2, and Sara Muehlhausen made it a 13-4 game by 5:20. Corban rallied to tie the game 13-13, but a triple by Maddie Holm closed out the frame with LC ahead 16-13.

The Corban Warriors jumped ahead 17-16 before another 3 by Broyles gave LC back the lead. Layups by Adyson Clabby and Stevens kept the visiting Warriors ahead by a slim margin before both teams suffered a scoring drought of nearly three minutes. Clabby snapped the spell with a jumper at 4:37 to make it 25-20 in favor of LC State.

Holm and Rachel Schroeder went back-to-back to pick the momentum back up for LC, and Muehlhausen made it a 10-point difference (36-26) to close out the first half.

Heidi Sellmann and Holm netted back-to-back baskets to start the third quarter. Holm sparked a run of 12 to create a 54-39 cushion by the end of the frame.

A layup by Stevens kept the scoring going for the LC Warriors in the final quarter, and a 3-pointer by Ellie Sander started a seven-point run to make it 66-44 as the offense continued to charge on.

The LC Warriors added five points from Sander and a jumper by Mataya Green in the final minutes of the game to close out the victory.

Stevens led the Warrior women with 16 points and Holm added 15. Broyles scored 12 points on four 3-pointers and Sander tallied 10. Muehlhausen led the defense with 10 rebounds, Stevens had five steals and six different Warriors dealt two assists.

LC State had 21 steals in the game and forced 27 Corban turnovers.

The Warriors wrap up the regular season at home next weekend with matchups against Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech. LC is tied with SOU for the top spot in the CCC, and Senior Night will take place on Feb. 19 against OIT.
