LEWISTON, Idaho – No. 22 LC State Women's Basketball opened the weekend with a big victory over rival College of Idaho in the P1FCU Activity Center on Friday night. Led by a career-high-tying 27 points from
Callie Stevens, the Warriors improved to 13-3 in Cascade Conference play with a 75-48 win.
The LC State defense was on display throughout the night. The Warriors held the Yotes to a .279 shooting percentage from the floor.
"I thought out defense was pretty solid all game," Head Coach
Brian Orr said. "Callie got our offense going early and she was really good all night. I really like how we closed out the fourth quarter. This was another team win."
The Warrior women jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first five minutes of the contest. A triple from
Callie Stevens made it 13-2 at the end of a nine-point run.
Mataya Green and
Sara Muehlhausen hit back-to-back jumpers to push the advantage to 21-7 by the end of the first quarter.
Adyson Clabby and Stevens scored consecutive buckets to keep the momentum going for LC State in the second. Five points from Stevens pushed the lead to 30-14 with 6:57 to go before her free throws, followed by a jumper by Muehlausen, gave the Warriors a 39-22 advantage a few minutes later.
Fueled by 18 points from Steven, LC State carried a 39-30 lead into the break.
Muhelhausen started the second half with layup to get the ball rolling for the Warriors. Four points from Stevens and a layup by
Hannah Broyles stretched the run to eight points to give LC State a 47-30 advantage by 6:26. At the end of the quarter, the Warriors led 51-37.
Rachel Schroeder tallied the first five points of the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer and a layup, and
Ellie Sander added a basket to make it seven in a row. Back-to-back baskets by
Heidi Sellmann and Stevens made it a 62-38 lead by 6:29 as LC rolled to a victory with a final score of 75-48.
Stevens led the Warriors with 27 points in the contest with 10 field goals and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Muehlhausen notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and
Maddie Holm grabbed eight boards and dropped seven points. Clabby dished out six assists, Green had three steals and Muehlhausen blocked two shots.
The Warriors shot 51.7 percent from the floor and went 8-for-10 from the free throw line. The LC defense held C of I to just .279 from the floor.
Sienna Riggle, Emma Anderson and D'Nia Williams each scored nine points for the Yotes. Anderson grabbed 11 rebounds.
LC State takes on Eastern Oregon on Saturday at 3 p.m. in an effort to avenge the only on-court loss this season. Tickets and streaming packages are available at lcwarriors.com.
