MEN'S RESULTS | WOMEN'S RESULTS

CARSON, Wash. – The Lewis-Clark State College Men's and Women's Golf teams, along with senior Jorgen Lie Viken, all placed second in the Multnomah Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at the Elk Ridge Golf Course.

The Cascade Conference event saw the Warrior men, ranked No. 15 in the NAIA, trail No. 8-ranked University of British Columbia by only three shots after the first two rounds, but the Warriors weren't able to make up ground during the final round. UBC shot a 282 Tuesday for an 848 score, while LC State has a 288 and finished at 857, 41 shots ahead of third-place finisher Oregon Tech.

Defending NAIA champion and top-ranked UBC women captured the title with a 581 team score, while LC State was second at 635.

Individually, Viken had the best third-round score of the day among all golfers with a 3-under-par 68 on the par-71 course. Viken birdied the final three holes on the front nine and added four more on the backside during his solid round. That gave him a 212 total overall for second place and three shots behind JP Kahlert of UBC. Viken's teammate, Sondre Andresen, tied for third overall with a 213. He shot a one-over-par 72 and finished the tournament at even par. Andresen had five birdies in his round.

Devon Caruso, who had the overall lead heading into the final round, shot a 78 for a 216 total, which left him sixth. Carlos Davila was ninth at 219 after shooting a 73 on Tuesday.

Viken finished the tournament with 12 birdies while Andresen and Caruso had 11 each. Davila tied for second for the most pars with 35.

LC State's Jacob Waller, who was playing as an independent because there is a maximum of five players on each team, matched par in the final round with a 71.

The LC women were within three shots on the counting score as Kyla Currie led the way with a 79 Tuesday for a 156 total. That left her tied for eighth overall. Alexandra Schmidt (82) and Deana Caruso (80) tied for 10th overall at 159, while Kylee Hughes (80) was at 152, good enough for a tie for 12th.

Schmidt tied for second for most birdies in the tournament with five, while Currie led LC State in pars with 20.

"Today again started with a struggle for both teams," LC State coach Zach Anderson said. "The start is what killed us. Both teams struggled on the greens. The guys picked up some momentum at the end but it was just too late. Jorgen had a great round today. Sondre had a solid tournament. Jacob had a great comeback round today. We will get back to work this week."

This is the second of three regular-season Cascade Conference tournaments played in the fall and spring.

The Warriors wrap up their fall schedule next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 3-4, at the Ottawa Fall Invitational in Surprise, Ariz. Several top NAIA teams are scheduled to compete in the event.
