Warrior Volleyball Upsets RV Bushnell to Open Weekend

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Lewis-Clark State Volleyball team rallied to take down RV Bushnell University in the P1FCU Activity Center on Friday night. Grecia Ung Enriquez returned from a short hiatus and tallied 14 kills in the four-set (21-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-20) victory over the Beacons.

The Warriors hit .258 as a team and dealt seven service aces. The energy on the bench was palpable during the match with a renewed excitement throughout the team.

"What a great night," Head Coach Shaun Pohlman said. "This was the most consistent energy we have had all season which is something we talked about and worked on this week. We have really trudged through the muck and more the last couple weeks just trying to get to the other side of these injuries. While we didn't play three of the four (injured players), as it provides a little more rest time for them, we had them at practice all week. There was a different feeling this week with practices. This team really worked through those tough times to get to this spot here so I'm happy to see the outcome work in our favor."

LC State opened the match with the hot hand on a 4-1 run, but the Beacons responded swiftly take gain the advantage at 14-11. A kill by Cassidy Nelson brought the Warriors within two, 14-12, but another Bushnell surge grew the deficit to 21-14. LC went on a six-point run, with kills by Ung Enriquez, Jada Wyms and an ace by Esther Kailliponi to make it a one-point difference (21-20). The Beacons went on a short run to end the set 25-21.

Seaman broke the set open by starting a run of five, with a kill by Nelson and two aces by Ashlee Bachman, to push the lead to 18-9. Lisi Langi, Wyms and Ung Enriquez struck for a combined four straight kills, and another by Langi made it set point at 24-12. Bushnell ended the set with an error to give LC a 25-15 win.

Langi and Ung Enriquez put the Warriors on the board in the third set frame with back-to-back kills before a BU error put LC ahead 3-2. Two consecutive kills by Ung Enriquez made it a 5-4 lead, and another swing by Ung Enriquez and ace by Jennah Carpenter kept the Warriors in front 7-6.
