Warriors Defeat Pioneers in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – After a near three-week break the Lewis-Clark State Women's Tennis team got right back to its winning ways with an 8-1 victory over NCAA Division III opponent Lewis & Clark State College of Oregon.

The victory improves the Warriors' record to 8-7 on the season.

The day started with a LC State sweep of the three doubles matches, but it was far from easy. Yelena Kim and April Buckingham were pushed to 7-7 in No. 1 doubles, but swept Susanna Anand and Seraphina Vossen in the tiebreaker. Anne Mathema and Maria Eduarda Santos da Silva also survived a tiebreaker in No. 3 doubles.

Heidi Moyo and Bonolo Molefe had an easier time in No. 2 doubles with an 8-2 victory over Arielle Bloom and Hayley Kreps.

The Warriors were victorious in five of the six singles competitions where four of the wins came from matches where LC dropped three or fewer games.

Moyo and Mathema each rolled to victories in No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, only dropping a single game apiece. Kim in No. 1 singles and Silva in No. 6 singles also rolled to easy wins.

Lina Boylan had to work a little longer than her teammates, but got the victory in No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-3 over Caren Uribe.
