Warrior Baseball Belts Eight Home Runs to Sweep Corban in CCC Twin Bill

LEWISTON, Idaho – No. 3 LC State Baseball overcame the largest deficit in program history (10 runs) to start Sunday's twin bill with Corban. Trailing 7-0 after the top of the first, the hosting Warriors exploded for 32 runs on 43 hits between the next two games to come away with wins of 18-14 and 14-5 and take the weekend series 3-1.

LC State totaled eight home runs, including four by Nick Seamons, to help the Warriors to an 18-4 overall record and 3-1 Cascade Conference mark.

"Our pitching put us in a hole early, but it was nice to see us not panic and continue to apply pressure until we ultimately came out on top," Head Coach Jake Taylor said. "Pretty solid effort throughout the lineup offensively. Our bullpen picked us up today late in both games."

GAME ONE: No. 3 LC State def. Corban 18-14

Corban put LC State in unfamiliar territory with a seven-run first inning. The visiting Warriors batted around, starting with a leadoff homer by Keenan O'Brien, and totaled six hits in the inning.

LC State got two back in the home half of the inning. Carter Booth drew a walk in the leadoff spot and Seamons crushed his seventh home run of the season to right center. Corban tallied another run in the second to make it 8-2.

The hosting Warriors added a run in the second with three straight two-out singles by Booth, Seamons and Pu'ukani De Sa, but Corban put up a four-spot in the third to push the margin to 12-3.

After another Corban run in the top of the fourth, Seamons delivered with his second two-run bomb of the contest in the bottom of the frame. Booth walked to start the inning before Seamons drove a ball over the wall in center. Isaiah Thomas kept the inning going with a single and raced around to third on a botched pickoff attempt, then scored on a groundout by Dominic Signorelli.

Walks to Jack Sheward and Sam Olsson kept the momentum going and a single by Jakob Marquez made it a five-run game with Corban ahead 13-8.

Jantzen Lucas sat Corban down in order in the fifth and LC State pulled within two in the next half inning. The LC Warriors tallied three straight hits with a single by Seamons, double by De Sa and three-run bomb by Thomas to cut the Corban advantage to 13-11 through five.

Lucas struck out two in the sixth and LC tied the game in the home half of the inning. Booth took first on a hit-by-pitch and Seamons doubled to put two on. A groundout by De Sa plated one, and Thomas singled to keep things going. Signorelli was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Joe Canty drove in the tying run with a sacrifice fly.

Corban regained the lead with a run on two hits before Cameron Smith struck out two to end the top of the seventh. A solo shot by Marquez evened the score 14-14 in the bottom of the inning.

Joe Canty put the LC Warriors on top with a two-RBI triple in the eighth. Thomas opened the inning with a leadoff doubled and Signorelli walked before Canty drove a ball into the right field corner. Olsson singled and a fielder's choice plated Canty. A base hit by Booth made the LC lead 18-14.

Smith shut the door in the ninth with a pair of strikeouts. He earned his third win of the season with six strikeouts in three innings. Warrior pitching combined for 14 strikeouts including five by Drake George, two by Lucas and one by starter Alec Holmes.

Seamons led the offense with five hits and four RBI. Thomas had four hits, and Thomas, Canty and Marquez each drove in three runs. LC totaled 21 hits as a team.

GAME TWO: No. 3 LC State def. Corban 14-5

Decker Stedman struck out three through the first two innings to keep Corban off the board in game two, and LC State jumped in front in the bottom of the second. Sheward singled to lead off the inning and a double by Canty put two in scoring position. Leo Rivera knocked in the game's first run before a fielder's choice by Isaac Haws made it 2-0.

Canty opened the home half of the fourth with a solo shot to push the lead to 3-0, but Corban rallied for five runs in the fifth to take the lead.

LC State surged ahead with a five-run bottom of the fifth. Seamons hit his third home run of the day to star the rally. Thomas and Signorelli tallied back-to-back singles and both scored on a triple by Sheward. A base hit by Canty brought in a run before Haws made it 8-5 with a sacrifice bunt.

Seamons homered once more to lead off the sixth, his fourth of the day, to start LC State's second straight five-run frame.  De Sa and Thomas notched singles and a base knock by Sheward made it 10-5.

A double steal by Sheward and Thomas forced an error by Corban to bring in one, and a sacrifice fly by Canty pushed the score to 12-5. A single by Rivera and triple by Haws sent LC to the seventh with a 13-5 advantage. A solo shot by Signorelli made it a 14-5 game in the eighth.

Jace Taylor earned the win in relief with three strikeouts in two innings. Eli Shubert closed things out in the final 2.1 innings, and both only allowed one hit.

Thomas and Canty led LC in game two with four hits each, and Sheward, Canty and Haws each drove in three. The LC Warriors totaled 22 hits in the contest.
