Quick Trip to Walla Walla Results in Win for Warrior Volleyball

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – The Warriors made a quick trip to Walla Walla University on Wednesday and made quick work of the Wolves in a Cascade Conference victory. LC State defeated WWU 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-13) to improve to 4-11 on the season and 3-7 in CCC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A kill by Anna Merrill gave the Warriors their first point of the night before another swing by the junior sparked a run of five points. Aided by an ace by Kenzie Dean, LC State lead 7-3 after the rally. Kills by Abbey Neff, Hallie Seaman and Gianna Anderson kept the Warriors in front 11-5, and tallies by Juliauna Forgach Aguilar and Missy Mortensen made it 15-11.

Walla Walla pulled within two, 16-14, before a kill by Katie Rainville pushed the margin back to three points. A Seaman kill and Anderson ace made it a 19-15 contest and a big swing by Forgach Aguilar pushed the difference to 20-16. Rainville added to her team-leading service ace total with a serve off a WWU defender on the next point before kills by Forgach Aguilar and Seaman ended the frame 25-17.

LC State rattled off the first three points of the second set with kills by Forgach Aguilar and an ace by Neff. The Warriors notched four straight kills on swings by Mortensen, Merrill, Rainville and Anderson to surge ahead 8-2.

Back-to-back kills by Forgach Aguilar gave LC a 15-8 advantage. Rainville slammed down two straight kills to make it 20-14. Anderson followed a kill with a pair of aces to push the score to set point and a WWU service ace ended the set 25-16.

Forgach Aguilar started the third frame with a loud kill and Anderson followed with one of her own. Rainville and Anderson denied the Wolves at the net to keep the momentum with the Warriors and kills by Mortensen had the lead at 10-6.

Another swing by Anderson and an ace by Esther Kailiponi started a run of five that had the Warriors in front 17-9 in the frame. Kailiponi added a sneaky kill and an ace by Ashlee Bachman made it 21-12. A kill by Mortensen, block by Merrill and Mortensen and ace by Neff ended the match with a 25-13 set.
