RESULTS
MOSCOW, Idaho – The women's distance medley relay closed out the first day of the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open with a national-qualifying mark on Friday. The Warriors will carry the momentum into the second day of competition on Saturday.
The DMR team of
Grace Tiegs,
Emily Collins,
Camille Ussher and
Damaris Kibiwot clocked the fifth-fastest time in school history at 12:19.98. The time is the third-best in the NAIA so far this season.
"Generally, a so-so day," coach
Mike Collins said. "Looked like what you might expect when it comes to trying to shake the rust off after a holiday break. Our highlights of the day were at the end with Lily (Bennett) in the 3,000m and then are women's distance medley relay hitting the national qualifying standard and breaking into the record book."
Bennett just missed out on her own entry in the Warrior record book with her first 3,000m run. The freshman clocked a time of 10:50.81 to place 17
th in the NCAA Division I-heavy field and was less than a second out of LC State's top five all-time.
Two Warriors threw personal bests in the weight throw to start the day for the women.
Grace Osborne led the throwing group with a mark of 13.63m to place 13
th.
Faith Wersland hit a PR (12.60m) to place 17
th and
Haylee Appleford's career-best distance of 10.80m earned 30
th place.
Hope Zollman was just behind in 32
nd (10.23m).
Karissa Lindner also opened her season with a career-best mark. The sophomore leapt from the volleyball court to the long jump pit where she cleared a distance of 5.02m to place 14
th.
