Parsells Punches National Ticket in 800m

RESULTS
MOSCOW, Idaho – Griffen Parsells ran the fastest 800m of his career to earn his spot at indoor nationals. The senior was one of several LC State Track and Field athletes to find success on the final day of the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open.
 
Parsells ran the third-fastest time in program history in the 800m and the fifth-fastest in the NAIA this season with his national-qualifying time of 1:52.28. He placed second at the meet behind LC State alum Clayton VanDyke. Tristin O'Brien was 29th (2:04.21), Clay Shumaker placed 30th (2:06.41) and Manuel Valdez finished 35th (2:18.10).
 
Trenton Johnson was just short of a national mark in the triple jump in his second outing of the season. He placed fifth overall with a leap of 14.33m. Jr Mendoza competed in throwing events for the second straight day and finished 11th in the shot put (10.07m).
 
Heptathletes Ike Hopper and Cameron Carrera concluded the first multis of their collegiate careers with Hopper placing sixth and Carrera in 11th. Hopper had a solid day with a third-place finish in the 1,000m (2:55.96) and sixth-place marks in the 60m hurdles (8.92) and pole vault (3.12m) to finish with 4,073 points. Carrera was just behind Hopper in the 1,000m in fourth (2:57.50) and finished his multi with 3,723 points.
 
Senior Ian Gardom advanced to the final round of the 60m hurdles and finished sixth overall with a time of 8.95. Jedidiah Barnaby led a group of Warriors in the 60m dash with a 12th-place finish in the prelims (7.03). Jordan Castillo was 20th (7.14) after clocking a time of 7.11 in qualifying and Preston Cooper was 23rd (7.16). Tanner Sibert finished 32nd in the qualifying round (7.64) and Max Funk was 37th (8.21).
 
London Kirk saw his first action of the season in the 400m and placed fifth (49.20). Kobe Wessels ran a personal-best in the mile to finish seventh (4:18.15). Connor Alexander was 29th (4:27.24) and Valdez placed 44th (4:51.66).
 
Kirk was joined by Cooper, Castillo and Johnson as the A team in the 4x400m relay. The squad placed third (3:19.86) while the B team of Wessels, O'Brien, Shumaker and Parsells finished 10th (3:41.95).
