Warrior Men’s Basketball Rings in 2026 with Hard-Fought Win Over Raiders

LEWISTON, Idaho – Jamare' Childs could not be stopped from 3-point range and Brandon Suber led the offensive charge in (RV) LC State Men's Basketball's comeback victory over Southern Oregon to start 2026. The Warriors outscored SOU 40-30 in the second half for a 72-65 win in Cascade Conference play.

LC State trailed 35-32 at halftime before 10 points by Suber and three 3-pointers by Childs in the second half propelled the comeback. The Warriors held the Raiders to just 5-for-24 from 3-point range and tied the fifth-best mark in program history with a 10-for-14 (71.4%) performance from behind the arc.

"Impressive win for our guys to gut it out against a good team in SOU," coach Austin Johnson said. "We struggled with their physicality at the rim and we were on our heels the first 30 minutes, but credit to our guys for sticking together and playing better hoops. Jamare' had his best overall game for us and Trevor (Manning) was definitely a bright spot. Dallon (Morgan) was the player we needed him to be the last 10 minutes. As good as tonight was, we have an even bigger test tomorrow against a well-rested and high level OIT team. Excited to see how our guys respond."

The win has the Warrior record at 10-3 overall and 4-1 in CCC action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern Oregon had the momentum to start the contest. Despite 3-pointers by Childs and Trevor Manning, the SOU lead grew to 21-12 midway through the half. Triples by Dylan Skaife and Dallon Morgan kickstarted the LC State offense before tallies by Josh Salguero and Peyton Nordland cut the difference to 23-22 by 7:12.

The Raiders answered with a run to push the margin back to eight, 33-25, at 3:20. Childs, Salguero and Suber combined for a 7-2 run to bring the Warriors within three at the half.

After four quick points by SOU to start the second frame, Suber and Childs put together a 7-2 rally to cut the difference to 41-39 at 16:28. A 3-pointer by Morgan and layup by Suber gave the Warriors the lead, 44-43, as a back-and-forth ensued.

SOU pulled ahead 59-52 with 8:58 left in the contest, but the Warriors took over from there. Childs netted a pair of 3s and Morgan added another of his own for a 63-61 edge at 6:30. Manning drained the third 3-pointer in the 60-second span to make it 66-63 with 5:51 to play.

Nordland scored the final six points of the contest to seal the come-from-behind victory.
