CORVALLIS, Ore. – Darian Herring earned the first Cascade Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week of the season after a standout weekend at the LC State Classic.

Herring's defense helped LC State split its home opening weekend with a big win over Park-Gilbert (Ariz.) and narrow loss to No. 24 Carroll (Mont.). The senior averaged 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2.5 steals per game between the two contests. She grabbed 15 total rebounds and blocked seven shots to solidify her hold on the LC State blocks record, including five against Carroll. Her five steals against Park were a career-high, and her defensive efforts (steals, blocks and rebounds) led directly to 16 points. She also averaged 5.5 assists and 6.0 points per game with a 45.5% shooting mark from the field. Herring currently leads the NAIA in blocked shots this season with 15.

This is the first weekly honor of the season for Herring and ninth of her career.
