SPOKANE, Wash. – LC State Track and Field opened its weekend at the Whitworth Indoor Invitational on Friday with a national standard in the women's 4x800m relay.
The team of
Damaris Kibiwot,
Nuala Rollins,
Grace Tiegs and
Camille Ussher ran the 14
th-best time in the NAIA this season to win the event. The time of 9:33.20 is a B standard for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships.
LC State put together a group in the men's distance medley relay that placed second at the meet. The team of
Sven Druijff,
Avery Seal,
Tristin O'Brien and
Kobe Wessels finished the DMR in 10:19.28.
"A pretty good first day," coach
Mike Collins said. "Nice to see our women's 4x800m qualify for nationals, and the nice thing about it is we know all four of them can run much faster, so it's very encouraging for them as well. We thought our DMR team would have a really good shot at qualifying tonight but just missed it by a little bit here and there. We may have another shot next week at Eastern Oregon. I think their team is going to try as well, so it's great to have some nice camaraderie with programs like that where we can try to help each other qualify for nationals in such a way."
Trenton Johnson led the Warriors in the long jump with a fourth-place finish (6.61m).
Camden Koerner earned his spot in LC State's top five all-time with a 6.55m leap to finish sixth.
Sophomore
Manuel Valdez ran a personal-best time of 16:30.61 to finish 19
th in the 5,000m as the lone individual in a track event for LC State on Friday.
"Great performance from Manuel in the 5k today with a PR for him and I know it's a milestone that he's been working really, really hard to achieve, so I am really happy for him," Collins added.
Three Warriors had a career day in the men's weight throw.
Alexzander Lambson led the group with his PR of 13.69m to place 11
