LC State Women’s Tennis Sweeps Singles Play to Upset No. 20 IWU

MARION, Ind. – LC State Women's Tennis, receiving votes in the national poll, pulled off a heavy-handed upset on Thursday with a 6-1 victory over No. 20 Indiana Wesleyan in Marion. The Warriors trailed after doubles play, but won all six singles matches to open the road trip with a win.
 
The top doubles duo of Naiara Montero and Lulu Monnayoo earned the lone doubles victory for LC State by a score of 6-1. IWU took second and third doubles for an early 1-0 edge.
 
The Warriors turned the tables in singles play. Rayana Shah earned a quick 6-1, 6-1 win in second singles slot to get the momentum going for LC State, and a 6-1, 6-2 victory by Gwyn Heim in No. 4 singles gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead.
 
Monnayoo carried her energy from her doubles win into singles play where she earned a 6-2, 7-5 win in No. 1 singles. Montero did the same when she outlasted her opponent 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in No. 3 singles.
 
Junior Ana Govea rolled to a 6-3, 6-3 win in the sixth singles match, and Carisa Liebenberg battled through three sets to close out the contest with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 victory in No. 5 singles.

LC State wraps up its quick trip to Indiana on Friday with a match at (RV) Grace (Ind.). First serve in Winona Lake is tentatively scheduled for 8 a.m. PT.
