No. 21 LC State Women’s Tennis Ends Regular Season with Split at LSUA Tournament

ALEXANDRIA, La. – No. 21 LC State Women's Tennis finished out its road trip and regular season in Louisiana with a 5-2 victory over (RV) LSU Shreveport (La.) and a 7-0 loss against No. 8 LSU Alexandria. (La.).
 
The Warrior women finished the regular season with a 10-8 record ahead. LC State now focuses on the GSAC Tournament.
 
MATCH ONE: No. 21 LC State def. (RV) LSU Shreveport 5-2
The Warriors claimed the doubles point to take the early lead. They won all three matches handily, which included a 6-2 win for Rylie Gettmann and Lulu Monnayoo in No. 1 doubles.
 
Senior Naiara Montero earned the highest-ranked singles win for the Warriors with a three-set win at the No. 3 spot. She the first 6-3 before a loss in set two. She took the third frame for a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory.
 
In No. 4 singles, Gwyn Heim dropped set one 6-1, but she bounced back to defeat her opponent with 6-3 and 6-2 wins in the second and third sets, respectively.
 
Junior Carisa Liebenberg had the standout victory for the Warriors in No. 5 singles. She breezed past her opponent en route to a 6-1, 6-1 victory in straight sets.
 
Ana Govea had a thriller of a match in No. 6 singles. The first set went in her opponent's favor after a tiebreak for a 7-6(10-8) result. Govea bounced back in set two with a 6-1 win. She followed that set with another 6-1 win in set three.
 
MATCH TWO: No. 8 LSU Alexandria def. No. 21 LC State 7-0
LSUA secured the doubles point with a win in all three matches. For the Warriors, the No. 2 doubles pair of Montero and Govea fought their opponents in a tight battle, but ultimately fell 6-4.
 
In No. 4 singles, Heim won four games in the first set and three in the second; in the end, her opponent took both sets 6-4, 6-3.
 
UP NEXT
The Warriors will travel to Glendale, Ariz., to compete at the GSAC Tournament Apr. 23-25.
