LEWISTON, Idaho – The crowd in the P1FCU Activity Center was treated to an offensive display on Friday in No. 23 LC State Volleyball's home opener as part of the Hells Canyon Grand Invitational. The Warriors swept Montana State University-Northern for a 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-16) victory. Junior setter
Teagan Scott hit a milestone in her career when she surpassed 1,000 assists during the contest.
The victory moves LC State to 5-0 on the season and marked the first loss of the year for the Skylights.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors opened the match on an 8-3 run in the first set. After a kill by
Taylor Boyce marked the first point of the night for LC, a swing by
Karissa Lindner launched a seven-point rally that featured kills by
Hadyn Smith,
Mikale Roy and
Addison Wilson. Northern cut the difference to 9-8 before a kill by Roy, ace by
Kadence Moore and block by
Jordynn Albright and Wilson extended the lead back to 12-8. LC State added kills in the middle with swings by Lindner and Wilson before tallies by Smith and Roy made it 19-12. Roy, Albright and Wilson rattled off three straight kills before Boyce ended the set with one of her own at 25-18.
Ella Stosich started the second frame with three straight aces to keep the momentum with LC State, and one from
Sammi Humphrey made it 5-2. An offensive attack that included kills by Lindner, Roy and
Alba Carpena pushed the margin to 18-13 and back-to-back service aces by
Makenzie Stout had the advantage at 22-17. MSUN fought off set point and cut the Warrior lead from 24-18 to 24-23.
Aubree Lane entered the contest and ended the set with a kill at 25-23.
Kills by Lane, Wilson, Boyce, and Albright were aided by aces from Moore and
Hannah Dotson for a 14-7 lead in the third frame. Four kills by Smith were matched with four by
Michaela Romine before Smith ended the match at 25-16.
STAT RECAP
Smith led the contest with 10 kills while Boyce and Roy each added eight. Boyce hit .316 in the match.
Scott surpassed 1,000 assists in her career with 23 tonight for a total of 1,014. Humphrey dished out 13 assists and
Kendall Focht added seven.
Stosich tied her career high with four service aces to lead the contest and tied for the match-high with 15 digs.
The Warriors hit .254 as a team and had twice as many kills as MSUN with 50. LC State dealt 10 aces and the defense did not allow more than 10 kills in a set.
