WHITEFISH, Mont. – For the second-straight week, Lewis-Clark State Track and Field earned a pair of weekly awards for strong performances over the weekend. Both
Cole Olsen and
Rebecca Saxton were named Frontier Conference Indoor Track Athletes of the week, Olsen earning his second-straight nod.
Olsen currently holds the top time in the NAIA in the 3000m after winning the event at the WSU Indoor with a new personal-best (8:31.30). He set a new meet record in the event and beat the second place runner by over 12 seconds in a field that included runners from NCAA DI, DII, DIII, NAIA and junior colleges. He qualified for Nationals on the A standard.
"He is running really well and has definitely learned," coach
Mike Collins said. "He had some lessons this cross country season with leading and doing all the work. Today he had some work done for him, so I think he's learned a lot and that has made him a much better runner."
Saxton earned her spot at Nationals by winning the 800m at the WSU Indoor, beating out the field of 23 runners with a time of 2:18.28. Her time is currently ranked eighth in the NAIA. She beat out teammate
Emily Adams by just over two seconds.
"200 meters into it, it wasn't going fast enough, so Rebecca took off and carried some teammates with her," Collins said. "She hit the standard and a couple others were pretty close."
The Warriors break for the rest of the month before returning to Pullman, Wash. for the Cougar Indoor on Feb. 1.
