LEWISTON, Idaho – Three Lewis-Clark State College track and field athletes were honored for their achievements last weekend at the Washington State Invitational as Frontier Conference Athletes of the Week.
Senior
Rebecca Saxton (Klamath Falls, Ore.) is the women's Track Athlete of the Week after posting two national qualifying times – one with her fourth-place finish in the 1600 meters and the other as a member of the Warriors' 4x800 relay team.
The Warrior men swept the awards with
Cole Olsen's Track Athlete of the Week award and
Owen Lanning's Field Athlete of the Week honor. Olsen, a sophomore from Clearwater, Idaho, won the 5000 meters in a race that featured runners from NCAA Division I, II and III schools as well as NAIA competitors.
Lanning, a senior from Waitsburg, Wash., was chosen after his fourth-place finish in the heptathlon. Included in his point total of 4,447 was a victory in the final event – the 1000 meters.
The honors, coach
Mike Collins said, are the result of commitment and effort year-round.
"It is great recognition for the team on some outstanding individual performances over the weekend," Collins said. "All three students have worked hard and have been great examples to their teammates on the results that can be accomplished with hard work, sacrifice and goal setting.
"It feels good to know that hard work and blue-collar effort on a daily basis can and will get recognized."
