SPOKANE, Wash. – The Lewis-Clark State track and field team had a successful start to their spring on Saturday at the Bucs Scoring Challenge, hosted by Whitworth.
Jenny Sapp and
Madi Carson both hit national qualifying marks.
"Considering the weather we have been training in, today seemed like a summer oasis to perform in," coach
Mike Collins said. "I am looking forward to returning to this track next week with expectations of even better weather and better performances."
The Women
Sapp set an LC record with her win in the 400m hurdles. She placed first overall with a time of 1:02.71 to earn an A qualifying standard. Sapp also saw success in the 100m hurdles where she placed third with a time of 15.45.
Fresh off her National-Runner Up finish at the NAIA Indoor Championships, Carson hit a B qualifying mark in the pole vault with an LC outdoor record of 3.50m/11'5.75". She placed third overall behind athletes from NCAA DI Eastern Washington. Carson had a busy day aside from the pole vault. She set a personal-record and placed second in the 100m dash (13.15), third in the long jump (5.08m/16'8.0"), and was a member of the 4x100m team that won the event with a time of 50.11.
Carson joined
Rebekka Kalmbach,
Karlie Smith and
Maisie McManus on the 4x100m team that finished just ahead of the quartet of
Jazzmin Bryan, Sapp,
McKinley Litton and
Michaela Madden (51.08).
In the 4x400m relay, Kalmbach, Smith, Bryan and McManus teamed up to finish first (4:06.76) while
Dallas Borrego,
Callie Johnson,
Maja Plaznik and
Rylee Brown were third (4:13.21).
McManus (59.57), Smith (1:00.79) and Kalmbach (1:01.45) finished first, second and third, respectively in the 400m dash.
Borrego (2:19.03), Plaznik (2:19.34) and Brown (2:19.71) finished in the top four of the 800m run, with Borrego running a personal-best.
In the 100m hurdles, Litton ran a personal-best 18.88 to finish just behind
Abby Snyder (18.10).
Madden saw action in both the long jump (4.63m/15'2.25") and the triple jump (9.84m/32'3.50"). She was top-six in both.
The Men
Alixander Morse saw a lot of success on Saturday with a win in the 400m hurdles (55.98) and a second-place finish in the 100m hurdles (15.78).
In the 4x400m relay, the quartet of
Cameron Preston,
Jalen Kirk,
Sakti Woodbury and
Owen Lanning finished first with a time of 3:27.38.
In the sprints, Sam weeks was the top Warrior finisher in both the 100m (11.24) and 200m (22.90) dashes. Preston placed third in the 400m dash (51.11).
Woodbury (1:59.42) and
Josh Lay (2:01.30) came in second and third, respectively, in the 800m run.
Dillon Novich, Weeks,
Louis Pennow and Kirk ran a strong 4x100m relay and finished second (43.78).
The Warriors head back to Spokane next weekend for the Sam Adams Classic and Mutli hosted by Whitworth.
