WHITEFISH, Mont. – After a successful weekend at the Bucs Scoring Challenge hosted by Whitworth, the Lewis-Clark State women's track and field team earned two conference weekly awards.
Jenny Sapp was named the Frontier Conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, and
Madi Carson earned Frontier Conference Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
"We are excited to see them start the season so strongly," coach
Mike Collins said.
Sapp set an LC record with her win in the 400m hurdles. She placed first overall with a time of 1:02.71 to earn an A qualifying standard. Sapp also saw success in the 100m hurdles where she placed third with a time of 15.45. She finished her day with a second-place finish in the 4x100m relay (51.08).
"I know Jenny is very motivated at the A standard right away in the hurdles, so seeing her do that and get recognition at the conference level is a nice thing for her," Collins said.
Fresh off her National-Runner Up finish at the NAIA Indoor Championships, Carson hit a B qualifying mark in the pole vault with an LC outdoor record of 3.50m/11'5.75". She placed third overall behind athletes from NCAA DI Eastern Washington. Carson had a busy day aside from the pole vault. She set a personal-record and placed second in the 100m dash (13.15), third in the long jump (5.08m/16'8.0"), and was a member of the 4x100m team that won the event with a time of 50.11.
"Madison's confidence should be very high coming off of a National Runner-Up finish in the pole vault," Collins said. "She also performed well in some other events so that is good motivation for her as well as her teammates."
