CHENEY, Wash. – The Lewis-Clark State track and field team completed the multis at the Pelluer Invitational at Eastern Washington today and posted strong numbers from every student-athlete.
Owen Lanning led the men with a second-place finish in the decathlon, and became the second Warrior in school history to break 6,000 points.
Jenny Sapp led the women, hitting the national standard once again in the heptathlon.
THE MEN
Lanning,
Falk Thieme and
Alixander Morse finished second, third and fifth in the field, respectively. Lanning totaled 6,019 points to become the second male athlete to secure at least 6,000 points in the 10-part event.
Thieme and Morse also hit the qualifying standard with their scores. Thieme set a personal-record while Morse' score was a season-best. Thieme posted 5,784 points, and Morse had 5,601.
THE WOMEN
Sapp set a personal-best in the javelin portion of her heptathlon with a toss of 26.44m/86'9.0". She won the 800m but missed the B standard by just 0.53 seconds. Sapp placed fifth with 4,164 points.
"It was a really impressive run for her because she ran it completely solo, beating second-place by 12 seconds," coach
Cyrus Hall said.
Madi Carson competed in her first heptathlon finished just behind Sapp in sixth with 3,843 points. Her time of 26.52 in the 200m was a personal-best.
"It was her first time doing all the events except the 200m, long jump and javelin," Hall said. "She was very impressive, especially in the hurdles, 200m and high jump."
Delaney Warren finished in the top five of the discus throw, narrowly missing a B qualifying standard.
Competition continues tomorrow in Cheney.
