LEWISTON, Idaho – It may have been late in the recruiting season but Lewis-Clark State assistant coach
Cyrus Hall wasn't about to overlook a promising sprinter to add speed and depth to the track and field squad.
"I linked up with Nikki late," he said of signing Pomeroy (Wash.) High School's Nikki Halbert, "so we are fortunate that she decided to run track here at LCSC."
Halbert was a state placer in two events at the Washington 1B state meet during her junior season (second on 4x100 relay, sixth 100 meters) and is on track to experience similar success as a senior. She has personal bests of 13.25 in the 100 and 28.07 in the 200, and runs on the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.
"Athletically, she has a ton of room for development moving forward," Hall said. "She has a lot of tools in her tool belt. She just needs to learn how to use them. It will be exciting to watch her progress as a student-athlete the next four years."
Hall already knows how Halbert, who plans to major in Occupational Therapy, fits in with the Warriors.
"When she met the team, everyone loved her so, obviously, she will fit in great," he said.
