WHITEFISH, Mont. – Lewis-Clark State Track and Field collected its fifth and sixth conference weekly awards on Monday after strong performances in Boise over the weekend. Both
Emily Adams and
Clayton VanDyke hit national qualifying standards in their events.
"It is great to continue to see our students recognized at the conference level," coach
Mike Collins said. "Clayton really blew a lot of people out of the water this weekend in a very competitive meet. It is great to see all the races he ran, and ran at such a high level, especially as we approach indoor nationals. Emily had a great bounce back from a tough Friday to come out and race like she did. It is a great reflection on her toughness and resiliency. I am happy for them both."
Adams punched her ticket to South Dakota in the 3,000-meter run, setting a new personal best along the way. She finished second, only behind an unattached runner, with a time of 10:27.55 at the Jackson's/Nike Boise Indoor Invitational.
VanDyke earned his second Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honor after hitting two national qualifying standards and setting two school records over the weekend. The junior anchored the 4x800m relay that set a program record with a time of 7:55.29. On day two of the meet he won two individual events, the mile (4:16.05) and the 800m (1:53.97), and set national times in both. His time in the 800m set the program record. He also anchored the 4x400m relay with a 50.38 split.
Both athletes accomplished these impressive marks at a meet that featured a large number of NCAA DI , DII and NAIA schools.
