BOISE, Idaho - Lewis-Clark Track and Field returned to Boise this weekend and had a strong showing at the Boise State Challenge indoor meet. The Warriors had two relay teams qualify for the national meet in the final meet of the regular season.
On Friday, the men's distance medley relay team of Dillon Dawson, Bryan Carter, Cameron Preston and Clayton VanDyke hit a qualifying national standard (10:16.93) and won the event at the meet. The women's 4x400m relay quartet of Karlie Smith, McKinley Litton, Ashley Britt, and Rebekka Kalmbach qualified for the national meet on Saturday with a time of 3:59.62.
"We had a pretty good weekend," coach Mike Collins said. "Disappointed that the women's DMR did not make it, but excited to see that the men's DMR and women's 4x400m relay got in. We had a nice showing by Cole Olsen and Clayton VanDyke in their individual races improving upon their national standings. I am looking forward to a few weeks to train and get ready for nationals to represent the college."
THE WOMEN
The highlight of the weekend on the women's side came on Saturday when the team of Smith, Litton, Britt and Kalmbach punched the 4x400m relay ticket to nationals with a time of 3:59.62.
Madi Carson had a full weekend both on the track and in the field. The junior took placed 11th in long jump at 5.14m, 22nd (9.62) in the 60m hurdles and 25th (8.18) in the 60m dash. Â She finished 10th in the pole vault (3.35m).
Britt was not far behind in the 60m hurdles, placing 25th with a time of 9.96.
Carson was also a member of the second 4x400m relay team to run for LC State. She, along with teammates Maja Plaznik, Natalie Robinson and Rylee Brown placed sixth (4:13.86).
Robinson and Ciera Bailey rounded out the top 30 in the 400m dash. Robinson placed 24th (1:02.42) and Bailey finished 29th (1:04.05).
Emily Adams, Maja Plaznik, and Rylee Brown all finished in the top-25 in the 800m run, with Adams finishing 18th (2:20.97), Plaznik in 20th (2:21.64) and Brown in 24th (2:23.15). Abigail Peightal places 29th in the mile with an indoor personal-record of 5:38.50.
Also in distance events, Jamey Weishaar and Carli Jones finished 16th and 17th, respectively, in the 3,000m. Weishaar finished with a time of 11:21.73, and Jones crossed the line in 11:58.45.
The DMR team of Brown, Britt, Plaznik and Adams fell just short of qualifying for nationals, placing fifth with a time of 12:34.87.
Madden placed 19th in the long jump (4.87m). Carmen Breen placed 30th in the shot put with a toss of 11.99m, and 29th in the weight throw at 10.47m.
THE MEN
The men's DMR team of Dillon Dawson, Bryan Carter, Cameron Preston and Clayton VanDyke hit a qualifying national standard (10:16.93) and won the event at the meet.
The 4x400m relay quartet of Preston, Carter, Christian Bothwell and VanDyke set a school record in their fourth-place finish (3:27.33).
Carter also excelled in the 200m dash, placing 12th (22.62), and 18th in the 60m hurdles (8.98). Bothwell was 28th in the 60m hurdles (9.61).
Cole Olsen won the 5K with a strong lead throughout the entire race, ending up with an indoor personal-record of 14:51.35.
VanDyke won the 800m (1:53.65), Preston placed 10th (1:58.98) and Josh Lay finished in 20th (2:03.62).
Louis Pennow rounded out the top 25 in the 60m dash, taking 24th (7.39).
Bryan Carter makes the top 20 in the 60m hurdles taking 18th (8.98), followed by Christian Bothwell at 28th (9.61).
Clayton VanDyke won the 800m (1:53.65), Cameron Preston takes 10th (1:58.98) and Josh Lay finishes in 20th (2:03.62).
Dillon Dawson placed 11th (4:22.15) in the mile and Alejandro Martinez finished 28th (5:01.91). Colton Smith placed 20th in the 3,000m (9:16.95).
Bothwell placed 19th in the long jump (5.54m). Nik Bertling placed seventh in pole vault (4.25m). Matt Hroma was 26th in the shot put (10.68m) and Jack Hardee was 28th (10.29m).
