RESULTS
SPOKANE, Wash. – LC State Track and Field finished the Whitworth Invitational and Multis Friday with more standout performances. More athletes continue to show their talent, battling their way to victories and personal bests in Spokane on day two of the meet.
"I thought we performed well these past two days," Coach
Cyrus Hall said. "We continue to make some good improvements. Everybody, from throwers to vaulters to hurdlers to sprinters, made improvements and I think everyone can come away from this meet in particular with something good for them. They can feel good about at least something. We had a lot of PRs and impressive performances and I really like where this team is heading and I'm excited to see what happens in the next couple weeks."
THE WOMEN
Freshman
Anika Grogan shined in the 100m dash with a second-place finish and a school-record time of 12.64 to break her own record of 12.83 set last week.
Nikki Halbert finished ninth (12.96) and
Chelsie Testa placed 12
th (13.51). Freshman
Sara Hathaway ran 13.54 to place 13
th and
Alexa Horsley followed in 14
th (13.74).
Grogan also stood out in the 200m dash with a second-place finish and a personal-best time of 25.67. Halbert also ran a personal-best of 26.64, which placed her seventh in the event.
Delaney Warren had a strong win in discus with a throw of 43.27m to hit a national-qualifying B standard.
Rylie Overton finished in 17
th with a mark of 25.35m in the event.
Ashley Britt looked strong in the 400m hurdles, earning a victory in the event and a personal-best time of 1:03.97 which also gives her a B national-qualifying standard.
Rebekka Kalmbach finished third in her first-ever 400m hurdle race with an impressive time of 1:05.57.
Keelyn Pilcher also competed, finishing in sixth (1:08.12).
Britt also finished fifth in the 100m hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.64. Madison Carson placed eighth (16.74) and Hathaway followed in ninth (16.85). Pilcher placed 15
th overall with a 20.95.
Junior
Karlie Smith finished fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.07. Testa finished 11
th in long jump, reaching a mark of 4.60m.
Kea Stieglitz finished 18
th in shot put, reaching a mark of 9.22m.
The 4x100m relay team of Halbert, Kalmbach, Smith and Grogan, finished third with a time of 49.20.
THE MEN
Andrew Carlyle won pole vault, clearing the height of 4.33m. Nik Bertling finished in fourth with the mark of 4.03m and
Isaiah Richards followed in fifth (3.88m).
Freshman
Ike Hopper had a seventh-place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.56 and
Sean Spencer followed in eighth (16.71), both personal-bests. Hopper and Spencer also competed in the 400m hurdles, with Spencer finishing in fifth (57.70) and Hopper placed seventh with a time of 59.16.
In the 100m dash,
Louis Pennow finished in 13
th (11.63) and
Dillon Novich ran a 11.97 to place him 17
th in the event.
Pennow finished 10
th in the 200m dash with a time of 23.79 and Matthew Hroma followed in 11
th (23.95). Carlyle placed 17
th in the event, finishing with a time of 25.12, and
Isaiah Richards finished in 20
th (25.67).
Hroma finished 14
th in the discus throw with a mark of 36.81m and
Jaycob Atencio placed 19
th (33.81m).
Jack Hardee finished in 25
th with a throw of 25.99m.
In the decathlon,
Christian Bothwell finished fifth overall and
Caleb Moore joined him in the top ten, finishing in eighth. In the decathlon 110m hurdles, Moore finished seventh (16.57) and Bothwell placed 11
th (16.89). Bothwell won the decathlon 1500m with a time of 4:56.78 and Moore finished the race in 13
th (5:34.48). Moore won the decathlon discus with a throw of 33.71m and Bothwell placed eighth with the mark of 29.21m.
The 4x100m relay team of Novich, Spencer, Bertling and Pennow, finished in third, earning a time of 44.50.
Warrior Track and Field will be back at Whitworth for the H.I.R. Invitational on Friday, April 2.
