SPOKANE, Wash. – LC State Track and Field wrapped up another successful meet on Saturday at the Sam Adams Classic, hosted by Whitworth University. The Warriors had two runners qualify for outdoor nationals in three different events, with
Cole Olsen hitting the automatic mark in the 5,000m and
Clayton VanDyke running a B time in the 1,500m and 800m. Multiple athletes had personal-bests throughout the day as well.

"We had a solid day," Head Coach
Mike Collins said. "I haven't counted yet, but we must be close to 20 conference qualifiers, a few national marks and some that are right on the edge. Looking forward to a solid week of training and building towards conference and nationals."

THE MEN
Olsen and VanDyke ran strong races after returning to the track with the conclusion of the cross country season. VanDyke won the 800m by two seconds (1:52.61) with the top time in the NAIA. He finished second in the 1,500m (3:54.58) with the second-best time in the NAIA.

Olsen finished fourth in the 5,000m (14:37.26) with an A standard time. He crossed the line behind a pack of three runners from Gonzaga and is in the top 10 in the NAIA in the event.

Ike Hopper had a big day at the track with a personal-best time in the 110m and 400m hurdles. He shaved off nearly four seconds in the 400m event to finish second at 55.89. The freshman finished seventh in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.86.

In the 200m,
Nikolous Bertling placed eighth in the 200m dash (23.46).

The 4x400m relay team of
Carter Gordon,
David Phillis,
Josh Lay and
Clayton VanDyke finished second (3:31.12) in the field of three teams.

In field events,
Andrew Carlyle tied for third in the pole vault (4.36m).

THE WOMEN
Karlie Smith ran her way to a huge personal-record time in the 400m. She finished third (58.80) to break 60 seconds for the first time in her career, and placed just ahead of teammate
Geraldin Correa in fourth (59.04).

Correa was also in action in the 800m where she finished fifth (2:16.99). She was less than a second off a national-qualifying time, and
Maja Plaznik was not far behind in seventh (2:17.66).
Rylee Brown rounded out the top 10 in ninth (2:19.24).

Junior
Rebekka Kalmbach placed third in the 400m hurdles with a career-best time of 1:05.15. Today was just her second time ever running in the event.

Callie Johnson had a strong showing in the 5,000m run with a third-place finish (19:02.01). She crossed the line behind runners from WSU and Idaho.

In the 200m,
Anika Grogan finished fifth with a time of 25.81. She went on to take seventh in the 100m dash (12.71), and
Sara Hathaway was 10
th in the 100m hurdles (16.59).

The 4x400m relay team of
Emily Adams, Brown, Plaznik and Correa finished third (4:07.52) in the field of six teams.

In field events,
Kea Stieglitz was third in the javelin at a distance of 38.83m.
