DAY 1 RESULTS
Â
ASHLAND, Ore. – After day 1 of the 2021 Cascade Conference Combined Events Championships,
Madi Carson sits in 10
th place while
Christian Bothwell is ninth and
Caleb Moore is 12
th.
Â
"We had a pretty good day," coach
Cyrus Hall said. "Typical roller coaster that is a multi with some ups and some downs. Caleb started hot with a personal-best in the first three events. He stumbled a little in the high jump, but bounced back in the 400m. I think he had a day 1 personal-best score."
Â
Moore earned a second-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 11.85m to earn 597 of his 2,850 points. He was 11
th in the high jump (1.70m) and13th in the 100m (12.18), long jump (5.79m) and 400m (56.20). Bothwell's highest finish of the day was third in the high jump (1.85m) to earn 670 points. He was seventh in the 400m (54.03), eighth in the shot put (10.82m), ninth in the 100m (11.83) and 12
th in the long jump (5.82m). He currently has 3,076 points.
Â
"Christian had a really good day and scored over 3,000 points," Hall said. "But he sits ninth because there are some really good athletes in the Cascade Conference. He had personal-bests in the 100, shot put and high jump. With a good day tomorrow, he's looking at making a national qualifying list, but it is not going to be easy."
Â
Carson earned a third-place finish in the shot put (10.0m) to garner 529 points as part of her 2,349. She was eighth in the 100m hurdles (16.23) and 13
th in the high jump (1.38m) and 200m (27.84).
Â
"Madi had an interesting day," Hall said. "She started with a personal-best in the hurdles. She hadn't PRed since the first time she ever hurdled three years ago. Then she did well in the high jump, just missed a PR, then had a huge shot put personal-best."
Â
The three athletes will wrap with the combined events championships tomorrow.
Â
"We put ourselves in a position to make some moves tomorrow," Hall said. "It all starts with the first event. Hurdles will be key to get the men going, and the long jump will be the key to whether or not Madi can get herself in scoring position."
