Men's Track and Field | 05.08.2021
NAMPA, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State Track and Field received one last chance to compete before the Cascade Conference Championships next week in Oregon. The College of Idaho hosted the Canis Latrans Qualifier and Multi meet on Saturday and a small group of Warriors traveled south in hopes of hitting conference standards heading into conference week.
"Rylie (Overton) hit a conference standard, so very excited for her," Head Coach
Mike Collins said. "Relay guys ran better, but probably not good enough to get into nationals. The focus now is on conference and excited for our first ever competition in a conference championship meet."
THE MEN
The 4x800m relay team of
Carter Gordon,
Conner May,
Cooper Carlson, and
Clayton VanDyke won the event with a time of 7:55.08.
"The men's 4x800m relay wanted to qualify for nationals but they came up a little short," coach
Cyrus Hall said. "But they won the race and they learned a lot about racing today. Good news is all four guys will be back next year so they will have more opportunities."
Matthew Hroma placed fourth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.68. The senior also placed third in the 400m with a 55.21 and finished sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.87m.
"
Matt Hroma had a busy day," Hall said. "He was near his PRs in three events (200, 400 and hammer) and set a PR in the 100m, being his first time running it. He did all four events in a span of about two hours. That's pretty tough to do."
Junior Nik Bertling had a strong showing in the 200m dash, winning the event and finishing with a time of 23.34. He was just 0.2 off his personal best.
THE WOMEN
Rylie Overton finished ninth in discus with a personal-best throw of 31.16m, which qualifies the freshman for the Cascade Conference meet. She also competed in the hammer throw, hitting a mark of 26.85m to earn 11th.
