LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State Track and Field added depth to its throwing group with the signings of Connell High School's Jill Benson and Deary High School's Cassidy Henderson.

Benson will add depth to LC's group of javelin throwers. A graduate of Connell High School, she helped the Eagles place second at State in 2019 and second is districts this past season. Individually, she was the District Champion in 2021 and first-team all-league. She took seventh at State in 2019. Benson also played volleyball and was voted second-team all-league after helping Connell to a district title in 2021.

"Jill comes to us from a very good track program at Connell," assistant coach Jacob Whittaker said. "Connell puts out some really disciplined athletes year-in and year-out. When I first started recruiting Jill, she was planning on not even doing track, but I've convinced her to come throw for us. Our javelin program is growing and starting to take off, so we are looking at having a really good group going into next year. She is going to come in doing well and hopefully we can develop her into a national-caliber athlete as time goes on. Jill comes from working on a farm, so I know that she'll work hard at whatever she does. I look forward to seeing what she does in the years to come. Good things are coming her way."

Henderson is the second student-athlete coming in from Deary High School this year, joining cousin London Kirk. A thrower, she has hit personal-bests of 107'1" in the discus and 31" in the shot put. Henderson was the District 1/2 Champion in the discus as a senior and placed fifth in the event at State. She also competed in volleyball, basketball and cheerleading.

"I am very happy to get a girl like Cassidy," Whittaker said. "With what I have seen from her, she is a disciplined thrower and with a little more time to specialize, I think she will have some big improvements coming in her freshman year. The plan is for her to throw the discus, shot put and hammer. I look forward to working with her and seeing what she will do. Cassidy is planning on becoming a teacher which shows that she is willing to learn and says so much about her character. I know she'll be a great teammate and her personality will be great to have."
