LEWISTON, Idaho – The academic honors continued to roll in for LC State with three selections on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Track and Field/Cross Country teams.
Clayton VanDyke,
Emily Adams and
Madi Carson all earned the honor for the first time in their careers.
"Within our track and cross country programs we work hard to set high standards and high goals," Head Coach
Mike Collins said. "These encompass all that we do including the community and academics, as well as the athletic part of our endeavors. It is exciting to see when members of our programs get recognition for meeting and exceeding these expectations. All three of these students have represented us well in all areas and to have recognition like this for their academics not only gives them the recognition they are due, but also represents the goals and philosophy of our entire program. I cannot express my sincere pride in all they have done already and looking forward to more great things ahead."
VanDyke has had a stellar year in both the athletic and academic realm. The Cascade Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year was the National Runner-Up in the indoor 1,000m and the outdoor 1,500m. He was also an All-American in the outdoor 800m where he placed fifth. VanDyke was the CCC Champion in the 800m and 1.500m, and earned all-conference status with his third-place finish at the conference cross country championship. On top of his athletic success, VanDyke has worked hard in the classroom to attain a perfect 4.0 GPA as a Graphic Communications major. He applied his graphic skills as an intern in the LC State athletic department and designed the 2021 Avista NAIA World Series souvenir shirt, the latest CCC SAAC logo, the LC State SAAC logo and the logo for the 2021 LCSPYs.
Adams earned the third All-American honor of her career as a member of the indoor 4x800m relay team that finished fourth at nationals. She was All-Cascade Conference in cross country with a 14
th-place finish at the conference meet and helped the women's 4x800m relay qualify for the outdoor national meet as well. Adams currently holds a 3.70 GPA as a Kinesiology major.
Carson wrapped up her LC State career as a three-time All-American in the indoor pole vault. The school record holder in the event at 3.78m, she finished seventh in the pole vault at the indoor championships this season and was the Cascade Conference Champion. The senior finished ninth at the CCC Combined Events Championship as well. She graduated with a GPA of 3.72 and a degree in Radiographic Science.
Academic All-District teams are selected by CoSIDA and recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in academics and athletics. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
