LEWISTON, Idaho – The Lewis-Clark State Volleyball team met a major goal for the 2020-21 school year by reaching a team GPA of 3.41. The team was named an AVCA All-Academic Team for just the second time in program history for its efforts.
 
"We've been chasing this academic award since I took over," Head Coach Shaun Pohlman said. "We had been getting closer and closer each year and just missed out last year by .005, which is a single person's letter grade. That shows that to win this award, it takes a full team effort to achieve it – in fact, it's beyond a team effort. Our professors do such a great job working with our student-athletes so that they are able to balance the rigorous schedule of being a student-athlete. This is as much their award as it is ours."
 
In the fall, seven Warrior Volleyball players were named Academic All-Cascade Conference. In order to earn the award, the student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and be a sophomore in standing. Carli Berntson, Kenzie Dean, Tori Edwards, Channa Hart, Jordan Hunter, Morgan Ness and Jess Ruffing all earned the honor.
 
"Any coach would be proud to hang an academic award on the wall," Pohlman continued. "I know I am, and our team is equally as proud. We want this to be a yearly thing so we will continue to offer help, structure and balance for our volleyball students, and I know our team will keep working hard in the classroom."
 
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. The program earned the honor once before in 2010.
