LEWISTON, Idaho – LC State Women's Basketball proved who the top Warrior team in the Cascade Conference is on Friday night in the P1FCU Activity Center. The hosting Warriors cruised past the visiting Corban Warriors by a final of 105-52, led by a career-high 27 points from
Callie Stevens. Six LC players scored in double-digits in the heavy-handed victory.
"This was one of those games that should help build our team's confidence," Head Coach
Brian Orr said. "We had so many players step up and play really well. Our defense was able to force several turnovers that we were able to convert for fast-break points. Offensively, we shared the ball and our execution was solid. It always helps when you're making baskets and we shot well both inside and from long range. It was a fun win."
After a three-point play by
Sara Muehlhausen started the scoring, LC State went on a 17-point run to take control of the contest. Three straight layups by Muehlhausen, Stevens and
Mataya Green kept the momentum up in the final two minutes of the opening frame, and a 3 by
Rachel Schroeder and jumper by
Maddie Holm had LC up 31-8 after the first 10 minutes.
LC State rattled off eight straight points to begin the second quarter fueled by 3-pointers from
Hannah Broyles and Schroeder. The final four LC baskets of the half were from 3-point range, with one each from Stevens and Broyles, and a pair from Holm. The LC Warriors took a 61-30 advantage into the locker room.
The offensive pressure and sharp shooting continued into the third frame.
Adyson Clabby sparked a run of nine to push the score to 74-35, and Green added free throws to make it a 78-39 lead heading into the last quarter.
Holm scored back-to-back buckets to kick start a 12-point rally that spanned the first four minutes of the fourth quarter. LC saw its largest lead, 56 points, when a layup by Stevens pushed the score to 103-47 with 1:42 to play. Clabby scored the final LC basket in the 105-52 victory.
Stevens led the scoring efforts with her career-best 27 points. Holm added 22, Muehlhausen scored 15, Broyles had 12, Schroeder tallied 11 and Clabby chipped in 10. Holm and Clabby each notched a double-double, with Holm grabbing 10 rebounds and Clabby dishing out a career-best 10 assists. Stevens, Broyles and Schroeder each had three steals and Muehlhausen blocked two shots.
As a team, the Warriors shot 55.3 percent from the floor with 42 field goals made. They were 12 of 23 from 3-point range (.522) and held Corban to 34.5 percent from the floor and just 14.3 percent from 3. LC State forced 21 turnovers and committed only nine.
Corban was led by Holly Golenor's 20 points and 11 rebounds. Madison Hodnett also notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards, and Gemma LaVergne scored 14 points and dealt six assists.
