NEW ORLEANS –
Clayton VanDyke was named the USTFCCCA West Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year after dominating mid-distance events this season. The senior from Vernal, Utah qualified for indoor nationals in five events and set four school records this winter.
"We are pleased that Clayton has been recognized with this regional award," Head Coach
Mike Collins said. "He has done a fabulous job of representing the school and out program at extremely high levels in both the classroom and in competition, and it is appropriate for him to be recognized for his hard work. I am very proud of him."
VanDyke is first in the LC State record books in the indoor 600m (1:20.30), 800m (1:50.53), 1000m (2:26.23) and mile (2:26.23), all of which were set this season. He currently holds the top time in the NAIA in the 800m and is in the top five in the 1000m (No. 3) and mile (No. 5). VanDyke is also a member of the distance medley relay team that qualified for nationals.
The senior has been voted the Cascade Conference Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week three times this season and earned the NAIA's weekly award in back-to-back weeks.
VanDyke and LC's other qualifiers will compete at the 2022 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Brookings, S.D. March 3-5.
